cafe rouge insideCafé Rouge have launched a brand new menu for kids this summer. As we all know keeping children happy and occupied during the summer holidays can be struggle, so Café Rouge’s new kid’s menu will definitely help keep children a little bit more entertained.

When I had the opportunity to review Café Rouge’s new kid’s menu I was very excited as having two young children of my own I often choose restaurants with a special children’s menu and was intrigued as to what the menu would consist of.

I visited the Café Rouge restaurant in Southgate, London. The first thing that impressed me about this restaurant was how polite and friendly the staff were. They were extremely helpful throughout our meal and had a lovely manner with the children.

When we were seated the waitress gave the children their own special menus which had the menu on one side and then a range of activities on the other that kept them very busy and entertained.

kids satrter cafe rougeI have visited many restaurants with my children and have seen many children’s menus. I was extremely impressed with the choice of food Café Rouge has on their Kids’ menu. Their starter consisted on vegetables, hot fresh bread and a tomato dip. Both my children loved this and finished the lot! The vegetables were very fresh, as was the warm bread.

The children could then choose from 7 main courses; Poulet Ooh La La! (sautéed chicken breast with new potatoes, peas and sweetcorn), Poulet Goujons (breaded chicken fillets with frites peas and sweetcorn), Le Burger (Aberdeen Angus 4oz burger with tomato, lettuce and frites), Fab Fishcake (Salmon Fishcake with frites), Bangers et Mash (2 porky grilled sausages, fresh mashed potato and gravy and peas and sweetcorn), Pasta (macaroni cheeses or pasta with pesto or pasta with tomato sauce) and Petit Croque (classic cheese and ham or just cheese toasties with frites). I thought this was a great range of food and catered for all children’s tastes. My children both chose the pasta with tomato sauce. This was presented in a child friendly way as the pasta was in a small bowl with a small bowl of cheese to accompany it. I thought this was great as the children could put as much or as little cheese as they wanted.

Both my children finished their pasta and thoroughly enjoyed their meal. As a parent this was great, as I knew they had both eaten well.

The choice of desserts for the children was brilliant. Other restaurants I have been in usually have one of two desserts on the children’s menu but Café Rouge’s menu had 5 fantastic desserts. These were: Ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, tarte tatin, chocolate and raspberry or salted caramel flavours with a choice of popping candy, marshmallows or jelly beans), Fresh fruit salad (apple, strawberry, banana and blueberries), Chocolate Crepe (crepe drizzled with chocolate sauce with vanilla ice cream), Profiteroles (choux buns filled with a crème patisserie filling with chocolate dipping sauce) and a Fruit ice lolly (ice lolly made with fruit juice, no artificial flavours, colours or added sugar).

Cafe-Rouge_2My son chose the fruit lolly and loved it! I tried a bit too and it tasted of real fruit juice and was delicious. My daughter chose the Chocolate Crepe which was a great size for children and was presented beautifully.

The children also had a choice of drink that was included in the menu. They could choose from fruit juice, milk, a fizzy drink and a Bottle green cordial.

Overall I thought the kid’s menu in Café Rouge was of a fantastic standard. There was a great range of food that was fresh and presented beautifully. The portion size was very good and I think it would definitely cater for children up to the age of about 11 years old. I would definitely recommend the kid’s menu at Café Rouge and at a price of £6.95, think it is great value for money.

I feel I also need to mention the quality of the adult menu too as this too impressed me. All the food I had was extremely fresh and good quality. For starter I had the Ceviche de Saumon which was salmon cured in lime juice, with fresh chilli, red onion and coriander. This was absolutely delicious. The salmon was dressed beautifully and the dressing really brought out the flavour of the salmon without overpowering it. My husband had garlic bread to start which was freshly baked and accompanied by warm garlic butter.

Again this was delicious and the chicken was cooked perfectly. It was moist and juicy and full of flavour. My husband had the 8oz sirloin steak that was cooked exactly how he had asked and was extremely tender.

The desserts were just as lovely. My tarte tatin was delicious and light and again was presented attractively. My husband had the Fondant Aux Chocolats which is a hot chocolate fondant with a melting chocolate centre and chocolate & raspberry fondant ice cream. This was gorgeous and had a deep, rich chocolate flavour which was complimented beautifully by the raspberry.

Overall I was very impressed with my visit to Café Rogue. The quality of food was outstanding and the staff were extremely friendly and polite. The kid’s menu was fantastic and catered for all tastes. I would definitely recommend visiting Café Rouge, especially over the summer holidays when trying to keep the children entertained.
